The State Data Agency is actively participating in the "Vilnius is a School" project
We are delighted that, by participating in the Vilnius City Municipality and “Vilnius is a School” project, we were able to welcome more than 1,000 students this year and offer them alternative lessons in mathematics, history, and geography (which were presented in an entirely new and different way).
We are seeing a growing interest from both teachers and students in our non-traditional classes. “Fun Statistics in Sports”, “Spatial Geographic Data and Its Analysis Using GIS”, and “The History of Gediminas Avenue: from Noble Villas to Shoemakers’ Shops” were among the most popular lessons with both students and teachers.
Students have the opportunity to “try on” different professions, collect and analyze data, learn why reliable data is important, how to analyze it properly, and understand the value that statistics creates.
We also introduce students to the architecture and design secrets of the building located at Gedimino Ave. 29, and explore how Gediminas Avenue has changed over the years. In geography lessons, students learn about spatial geographic data and its practical applications.
A record number of nearly 100 students visited us on 2 May, as part of the “A Day in the City” initiative, during which all Vilnius school students were invited to learn outside the school environment. A large number of enthusiastic students and proactive teachers inspired us to develop new lesson topics, and encouraged even more Agency staff to “try on” the role of a teacher.
Organizing educational activities is an important task for our Agency. We actively participate in the “Vilnius is a School” project initiatives, organize the annual “European Statistics Competition” for upper secondary school students, deliver lessons in schools across Lithuania, and conduct online seminars for teachers.
Having successfully concluded the school year, we are already preparing for the new season — developing new lessons and looking forward to meeting students again in September.
