OECD and the EU Invite Participation in the International R&D Careers Survey
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), together with the European Union, has launched the OECD–EU Research and Development Careers Survey 2026.
The survey is open to professionals working in various fields of research and experimental development (R&D), including researchers, engineers, product developers, laboratory staff, data specialists, R&D project and team managers, funding coordinators, and other employees contributing to research and innovation.
The aim of the survey is to gain a better understanding of how the work, career opportunities, and working conditions of R&D professionals are evolving. The information collected will help policymakers and the broader research and innovation community make evidence-based decisions related to R&D career policies. Completing the survey takes approximately 10 minutes, and all responses will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The questionnaire covers respondents’ educational background and professional activities, the nature of their work, the organisation and sector in which they are employed, as well as their employment contracts and forms of compensation. It also assesses job satisfaction, professional competencies, career prospects, work–life balance, and the mobility of R&D professionals across countries, sectors, and fields of activity.
The survey is part of the international Research and Innovation Careers Observatory (ReICO) initiative. The aim of this initiative is, for the first time, to bring together internationally comparable data, statistics, and policy-relevant information on the careers of people working in science, technology, and innovation. ReICO covers more than 50 countries.
The survey is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Participants can access the survey using their ORCID account or by requesting an invitation via email.

The State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) is not conducting this survey. However, at the request of the OECD, the Agency is supporting the dissemination of information about the survey in Lithuania.
