On 29–30 October, the 63rd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) took place in Bern, Switzerland. The meeting was attended by Dr Jūratė Petrauskienė, Director General of the State Data Agency, and Rugilė Andrejevskytė, Head of the European Affairs and International Cooperation Division.

During the meeting, participants discussed current issues relevant to the European Statistical System, including the update of the European System of National and Regional Accounts, amendments to the regulations on balance of payments and agricultural statistics, and opportunities for the re-use of privately held data for the production of official statistics. Discussions also covered strengthening the accessibility and visibility of official statistics within artificial intelligence systems, ensuring data quality, and defining future directions for the development of the European Statistical System.

Lithuania presented its priorities for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027. Preparations for the 2027 DGINS Conference and plans for the revision of the European Statistics Code of Practice were also discussed.

Prior to the ESSC meeting, on 28–29 October, representatives of the State Data Agency participated in the 111th Conference of the Directors General of National Statistical Institutes (DGINS), which focused on the preparedness of official statistics for the artificial intelligence environment, as well as on data accessibility, visibility and trustworthiness.

During the Conference, Dr Jūratė Petrauskienė moderated a discussion on the technological, organisational and cultural changes required to adapt official data for use in artificial intelligence systems. Gita Literskė, Deputy Director General of the State Data Agency, delivered a presentation introducing the Lithuanian Data Portal and the solutions implemented within it to enhance the discoverability of data by artificial intelligence tools.

Participation in these events provided an opportunity to present Lithuania’s position, share the experience of the State Data Agency, and contribute to shaping the common strategic directions of the European Statistical System.
