The European Statistics Competition was held in Lithuania for the fourth time
A record number of students, for the second year, participated in the European Statistics Competition, which has become a tradition. This year, as many as 130 teams showed interest in the statistical literacy development competition and tested their knowledge.
First, the teams solved tests in which they applied calculations learned in mathematics, economics and other lessons, searched for statistical indicators in the Database of Indicators on the Official Statistics Portal, and analyzed the Eurostat publication on an extremely important and topical energy issue.
The teams that solved the tests best were invited to prepare presentations. Students analyzed education indicators, renewable energy resources, compared the portrait of a young person in Lithuania and the European Union, and checked stereotypes prevalent in our society. The teams presented their analyses in video, web, and slide formats.
Presentations of the teams were evaluated by the Evaluation Committee of the State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania). The public also expressed their support for the works by voting on social networks.
After summing up the results of both tasks, the Vilnius Lyceum team "WORKSHEET" took the first place in the category of senior students. The second place went to the Vilnius Abraomas Kulvietis Classical Gymnasium team "ZUIKOS", the third place went to the Klaipėda Baltic Gymnasium team "AUNEIMA".
In the category of younger students, the first place was won by the Pasvalys Petras Vileišis high school team "PASIRUOŠĘ". The Klaipėda Baltic Gymnasium team "VIKŠRIUKAI" took the second place. The third place went to Kaunas Jesuit Gymnasium team "3D8F3D".
According to the Commission's decision, the team "SPINDULIAI" of Kaunas "Vyturys" gymnasium was chosen as the most creative team in the category of senior students, and the team "MEDUOLIAI" from Šiauliai University Gymnasium was chosen as the most creative team in the junior category.

We congratulate the winners and thank all the students and their teachers for their participation. We hope that the Competition has broadened students' skills in searching and analyzing official statistics, and given teachers inspiration and new ideas on how to apply statistics in the classroom.
The winning teams in the national stage will face another challenge – they will have the opportunity to compete with the best teams from other countries in the European stage, the winners of which will be announced in June.
The project is partially funded by the European Union.
