Registration is now open for the European Statistics Competition 2025
As every autumn, the State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) announces the beginning of registration for the European Statistics Competition!
For the eighth year, students will compete in the national stages of 21 countries, and the best of them will meet in the finals of the European stage.
Teams will perform statistical analyses
The European Statistics Competition is intended for secondary school students, who, having gathered in teams, will solve statistical tasks, search for information and perform analyses.
The purpose of this Competition is to promote and develop students’ statistical literacy and to encourage teachers to use official statistics in their lessons.
Since European students are educated according to different educational programs, the Competition consists of the following two stages:
- The national stage, during which students compete with their peers in their own country. Questions and tasks are adapted to the curriculum of each country.
- The European stage, where the winners of the national stages represent their country and create short videos on a statistical topic.
Last year, team from Lithuania won
In 2024, a total of more than 22 thousand pupils from 20 countries participated in the European Statistics Competition. Teams that qualified for the European stage had to check whether the statement “Everything was better before!” was correct, and support their answer with official statistics.
After the international commission counted the scores, it became clear that the best team in the 11-12th grade category was the team of students from Vilnius Abraomas Kulvietis Classical Gymnasium. Its members were awarded at a ceremony held in Madrid. The work of the team can be found here. Pupils from Greece became the best in the junior category.
