Municipal DataLab: A New Training Season Has Been launched

The State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) is launching a new training season for the Municipal DataLab. This is a specialized analytical environment created for municipal administrations to support data-driven decision-making and improve the efficiency of day-to-day functions.
What is the Municipal DataLab?
The Municipal DataLab is a project developed within the State Data Governance Information System (SDG IS), launched on 31 October 2023. Its goal is to provide municipalities with reliable, continuously updated data integrated from state registers, and to support fact-based decision-making.
Data is provided through interactive applications that enable municipal specialists to:
- analyze areas, such as education, infrastructure, and civil protection,
- model scenarios,
- plan resources and assess trends.
Currently, the Municipal DataLab covers the following topics:
- Education – number of pupils and teachers, age structure of educators, class sizes, lesson attendance.
- Evacuation of vulnerable groups – data on shelters, collective protection facilities, evacuation modeling.
- Infrastructure – information on roads, buildings, and utility networks, essential for investment planning and maintenance.
New Training Cycle
This year, four training sessions on civil protection and education topics have already been held:
- atypical student migration and class attendance,
- collective protection facilities and shelters,
- data on persons with disabilities.
After the summer break, the trainings will resume and, starting from 26 September, will take place on a regular schedule: on the last Friday of each month at 10 a.m.
In September, the topic “Aging of Teachers” will launch, during which a new application will be presented. Participants will learn how to:
- identify trends in the age structure of teachers,
- compare municipal indicators with national ones,
- model the future demand for teachers.
In October, another new application will be introduced – focusing on demographic data: population numbers, age structure, citizenship, attendance of educational institutions, students, employment, and more.
Participating Municipalities and Institutions
A total of 52 municipalities have already joined the Municipal DataLab, with 299 employees actively using the system, along with representatives from 10 other institutions, including ministries and municipal enterprises.
This is one of the most advanced tools in Lithuania for data-driven municipal governance, helping specialists address pressing questions of particular concern, justify decisions, and develop more effective public services.
