Documentary heritage data of the UNESCO Memory of the World program (MoW) National Register has been opened
The State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) continues to open data of various institutions to the public. From now on, data of the UNESCO Memory of the World program National Register are already available, which means that the public is given access to the exceptional documentary heritage of our culture: footage of the first Song Festival, pages of the Chronicle of the Catholic Church in Lithuania, various declarations, maps, record books, manuscripts and other valuable information. The aim is to preserve this valuable legacy of the past, and not sink into oblivion, keep the memory alive.
The data set indicates the name of the document or collection, the place of storage, whether the document (collection) is of national or regional importance.
In 1992, Lithuania launched the emergence of the UNESCO Memory of the World program as the vital importance of our documentary heritage for the memory of humanity, knowledge and recording of world history undoubtedly was the most obvious task and priority.
Both the National and International Registers of the UNESCO Memory of the World program aim to preserve and provide access to documentary heritage of global significance. Their purpose is to discover, publicize and preserve special collections of documents located in state and private archives, museums, and libraries.
According to the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, this program promotes the filling of the Registers, as well as the digitization of documentary heritage and its universal accessibility, therefore UNESCO is pleased that all information about documents included in the National Register and their collections is already available on the Lithuanian Open Data Portal.

The above-mentioned data was opened by the State Data Agency while implementing the project “Integration of State Information Resources into the Data Lake”. In order to make the best possible use of the data available to the state and to continue on the path of effective data opening, we are currently closely cooperating with 372 institutions and bodies of the country.
You can monitor the integration of state data into the data lake in real time on the special dashboard.
The project is financed by the Economic Revitalization and Resilience Enhancement Plan “New Generation Lithuania” and the state budget of Lithuania.
