Data of the Lithuanian Zoo have been opened

The State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) has opened data of the Lithuanian Zoo to the public. Data published on the Lithuanian Open Data Portal represents an ideal opportunity to get better acquainted with the animals currently kept in the Zoo. The said dataset contains extensive facts on the Zoo residents: Latin and English names, gender, place of birth, date, circumstances. The dataset is updated each year.

According to Ms. Aida Grockienė, Head of the Marketing and Education Department of the Lithuanian Zoo, each resident of the Zoo is a unique and irreplaceable representative of the collection: “For example, the Amur tiger, a species that is extremely endangered in its natural environment, is the largest representative of the cat family. Amur tigers are the only cats that like water, so the bathing of Edo, the Amur tiger kept in the Lithuanian Zoo, often surprises visitors.”

“Diego, two-toed sloth, our recent inhabitant, is one of the slowest animals. It moves at a speed of only 2–3 metres per minute, and sleeps for 15–20 hours”, noted A. Grockienė.

Collection of our Zoo is supplemented by offspring born here.

You are invited to gain more knowledge on exotic and unusual inhabitants of the Lithuanian Zoological Garden visiting the Open Data Portal.

The above-mentioned data was opened by the State Data Agency while implementing the project “Integration of State Information Resources into the Data Lake”. In order to make the best possible use of the data available to the state and to continue on the path of effective data opening, we are currently closely cooperating with 372 institutions and bodies of the country.

You can monitor the integration of state data into the data lake in real time on the dashboard.

The project is financed by the Economic Revitalization and Resilience Enhancement Plan “New Generation Lithuania” and the state budget of Lithuania.
