Winners of this year’s national stage of the European Statistics Competition have been announced

For the fifth time, Lithuania hosted the European Statistics Competition. This year, a record number of participants – 45 teams – took part in the Competition aimed at developing statistical literacy.

Initially, the teams completed tests in which they applied calculations learned in mathematics, economics, and other subjects, searched for statistical indicators in the Database of Indicators on the Official Statistics Portal, and analyzed a publication on digitalization prepared by Eurostat.

Teams that performed best in the tests were invited to prepare presentations. Students analyzed renewable energy sources, youth unemployment rates, compared the positions of men and women in the Lithuanian labor market, and examined common societal stereotypes. The teams presented their analyses in the form of videos, websites, and slides.

Presentations were evaluated by theEvaluation Committee of the State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania).  The public also expressed their support for the works by voting on social networks.

After summing up the results of both tasks, the winners of the 2025 national stage of the European Statistics Competition were announced.

We congratulate the winners and thank all the students and their teachers for their participation. We hope that the Competition has broadened students’ skills in searching and analyzing official statistics, and given teachers inspiration and new ideas on how to apply statistics in the classroom.

The winning teams in the national stage will face another challenge – they will have the opportunity to compete with the best teams from other countries in the European stage, the winners of which will be announced in June.

The project is partially funded by the European Union.
