We celebrate the 105th birthday of Lithuanian statistics
The 6th of September 1919 witnessed the establishment of the General Statistics Department. This date therefore generally represents the beginning of Lithuanian state statistics.
Statistics are now an integral and indispensable part of our everyday life, even if we do not notice them directly: helping us understand the world through figures, data and facts, giving us accurate information about the economic situation, the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare system, the progress of education or environmental changes.
Statistics were and remain the most powerful tool for knowing reality.
After more than a century has passed, the mission of the State Data Agency is different than it was a hundred years ago. Today, our institution is a fully fledged state data manager, not only compiling and producing statistics, but also contributing to the formation of the country’s strategy, ensuring that our society is well-informed and inclusive.
Data management is the state’s ability to quickly and efficiently respond to challenges and create long-term solutions. Data analysis not only helps business grow, it is also important for science, medicine and society in solving the most important issues and addressing the major tasks.
