Visit of the European Commission (EC) Official: Discussions on Equality Data Policy and Strategy
On 25 March, the State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania) was visited by Nadège Defrère, Team Leader for Non-Discrimination in the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers of the European Commission (Belgium). The purpose of this visit was to discuss equality data and the development of a national equality data strategy.
The discussion on equality data policy was attended by Dr Dovilė Galdauskaitė and Dr Inga Masiulaitytė-Šukevič, representatives of the State Data Agency, as well as Sandra Čergelytė, representative of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania.
During the meeting with N. Defrère, EC official, the recently adopted legal framework for the development of equality statistics was discussed, along with the processes and principles for collecting and analyzing equality data, as well as the scope of equality data. Detailed and thematically broad equality data enable the effective monitoring of equal opportunities.
“We want to highlight your achievements as a good example – what you are doing is important”, noted N. Defrère, EC official, regarding Lithuania’s progress and plans in establishing a legal framework for equality statistics and developing a national equality data strategy.
On 24–26 March, other EC officials are also meeting with representatives from various state authorities and public institutions in Lithuania. These meetings focus on EU policies and cooperation between Lithuanian and EU institutions.
