Data-use potentials have been presented to representatives of the ministries
The State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania), at the initiative of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, organized a practical workshop for representatives of our country’s ministries on the topic “Data management and use in public sector institutions”.
During the event, representatives of the State Data Agency presented benefits of the State Data Lake for the public sector, the availability of data and possibilities of their use.
The Agency’s data analysts emphasized how important it is for ministries and other public sector institutions of the country to use the opportunities provided by the State Data Lake: it is the data that allows for the adoption of targeted decisions for the public. Data is a strategic asset of the state. Properly managed and used, they can create added value in various fields.
According to them, representatives of the public sector should further strengthen their analytical potential, boost and deepen their knowledge of data utilization. Representatives of the State Data Agency are always ready to advise and train employees of ministries and public institutions.
The Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania is one of the institutions most actively using the opportunities provided by the State Data Governance Information System.
During the workshop, Ugnė Užgalė, Head of the Strategic Decisions Support Group of the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, shared good practices of the Ministry represented.
“In the Ministry of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania, more than 40 active users regularly connect to the State Data Governance Information System seeking to learn, become better acquainted, observe, analyze data in order to prepare proposals based on evidence and data,” noted U. Užgalė.
The aforementioned Ministry is already working on ten data analytics projects, which combine large-scale data from various state data registers and information systems. Data on persons and persons with disabilities, the unemployed, asylum seekers, migrants, as well as data on housing support, cash social assistance, non-governmental organizations, debts, social benefits and social insurance contributions are analyzed. Possibilities of using the said system are limitless.
Some phases of these projects have already been completed, and the results are positive and encouraging. For example, in 2023, a special instrument designed to speed up the procedure for awarding housing heating compensations was created. Using the said tool, housing heating benefits and other cash social assistance are allocated to residents faster. This instrument automatically collects relevant information about the person requesting compensation (income, marital status, place of residence, etc.).
The State Data Agency cooperates closely and regularly with state institutions in the process of integrating data into the Data Lake. We are currently closely cooperating with 377 institutions and bodies of the country, furthermore, 443 connections have already been established with information systems of public sector institutions. The above-mentioned data was opened by the State Data Agency while implementing the project “Integration of State Information Resources into the Data Lake”. You can monitor the integration of state data into the Data Lake in real time on the special dashboard.
