The State Data Agency, together with the National Public Health Centre, has developed a dashboard on Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination data

The State Data Agency, in cooperation with the National Public Health Centre (NPHC), has developed a dashboard on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. This innovative tool enables data analysis at the municipal and healthcare institution levels, and contributes to more effective monitoring of the situation across different regions of Lithuania.

A new opportunity to explicitly take the situation into account

Until now, the analysis of vaccination data has been complicated due to fragmented and disorganized health records, inaccurate vaccine entries, or other issues. Additionally, population mobility (e.g., changes in residence or receiving vaccinations in a location different from one’s registered address) led to data inaccuracies.

At the initiative of the NPHC, the State Data Agency team developed a new methodology that accounts for population mobility, changing age groups, and varied data formats. The dashboard uses anonymized data collected from ESPBI (Electronic Health Services and Cooperation Infrastructure Information System), SVEIDRA (Compulsory Health Insurance Information System), the Population Register, and the Register of Legal Entities.

This tool enables healthcare institutions to monitor and analyze the vaccination situation across Lithuania more effectively.

How does this new dashboard work?

Users can view HPV vaccination indicators on an interactive map of Lithuania, depending on whether individuals have received one or two doses of the vaccine. Vaccination coverage is presented by county, municipality, and healthcare institution. It is important to note that individuals are tracked based on the primary healthcare institution they are registered with. If a person is vaccinated at a different institution, their vaccination status will still be displayed under the institution where they are officially registered. Indicators can be filtered by age group and gender, allowing for a more detailed analysis of vaccination data.

Challenges and Solutions

The dashboard developers faced several challenges, such as inconsistent or incorrect vaccine records and constantly changing data due to patients’ age or changes in their primary healthcare provider (PHCP). These challenges were successfully addressed and taken into account: the dashboard’s architecture was specifically designed to ensure the most accurate and reliable vaccination monitoring possible.

What’s next?

The HPV vaccination dashboard is a pilot version of one of the planned vaccination monitoring tools. In the future, in cooperation with the National Public Health Center (NPHC), additional dashboards for various vaccinations are planned. These will provide more opportunities to closely monitor vaccination trends across Lithuania.
