Lithuania has received a remarkable international recognition – Dr Jūratė Petrauskienė, Director General of the State Data Agency (Statistics Lithuania), has been appointed President-elect of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS). Elected through a secret ballot, Dr Jūratė Petrauskienė will assume the role of President in 2027. Until then, starting in 2025, she will actively participate in the activities of the IAOS Executive Committee, representing the Europe and Central Asia region.
We congratulate Dr Jūratė Petrauskienė on this significant international recognition and wish her success in her new and responsible role.
This appointment is an important acknowledgment not only for Dr Petrauskienė personally but also for the entire Lithuanian statistical community. This once again reaffirms our country’s position as a reliable, advanced, and internationally recognized leader in official statistics.
Another important news: in 2026, Lithuania will host the IAOS Conference.
This three-day international event will bring official statistics professionals from around the world to Vilnius. It will be a unique opportunity to strengthen international cooperation, exchange experiences, and showcase Lithuania’s achievements in the field of statistics.
IAOS (International Association for Official Statistics) is an association founded in 1985. It is an international non-governmental organization (NGO), which was created and developed as a specialized section of the International Statistical Institute (ISI). It is a voluntary organization whose members are scattered around the globe, mostly doing a full-time job, rarely meeting and supported by a very small office.
The objectives of the Association are to promote the understanding and advancement of official statistics and related subjects and to foster the development of effective and efficient official statistical services through international contacts among individuals and organizations, including users of official statistics as well as research institutes.
The Association actively organizes conferences, discussions, and other initiatives aimed at addressing current challenges in the field of statistics, with particular focus on cooperation with representatives from developing countries.
